One of our close friends, Joelle, gave us a beautiful stone with Austin’s name on it. Over the past few weeks/months, Marci and I have been deciding on where to put it.
During that time, we decided to mulch all along side of our house. We are finding that working on little home improvement projects has been helpful through this process. For me, it is healing to start on a project and see progress, change and completion. It is nice to have that tangible vision of completion. If I had to go all Freud on myself, it is probably because we don’t see as much completion or progress in our grief journey.
I have even joked, that this summer, we are going to have the best lawn in the neighborhood, because going out and working in the lawn and garden is going to be my way to keep my mind occupied during the weekends.
While wrapping up this mulching project, we found a little cut-out next to our deck and we both decided would be a perfect place for our “Austin Garden”. A co-worker of Marci’s gave us an azalea for Mother’s Day, so we planted that, placed the stone and put up some solar powered lights.
It is nice now having a place where we can go tend to the plant (Marci has been amazing at watering it every day) and also a place where we can go and reflect and even talk to Austin.
